Welcome
Every year the Beals team works together to review student performance on test that are given the prior year. After reviewing the data, the Beals team works together to create a written plan that focuses on the best ways to teach students grade level strategies and concepts. This plan in called our school improvement plan or EXCELS plan. A copy of our EXCELS plan is located in the front entrance on the table for our Beals parents and families to review.
Every Single Child Grant
Beals was provided a grant that allows our students to have additional learning adventures outside of the classroom. Pre-kindergarten-sixth grade has or will participate in performances provided by the Rose Theater. We are very thankful for this experience for your student.

Spirit Day
Each Friday is Spirit Day at Beals. Students are encouraged to wear school colors, red and white, or a school shirt. PTA is selling Beals T-shirts for $5.00.
Hy-Vee Smiles for Education Program
Hy-Vee is sponsoring an awesome program that could earn your family a computer in your home. Each family that visits Hy-Vee once a week may register their student at the Customer Service desk. Each week there is a drawing. If your students name is pulled they will win a laptop and $5,000 will be donated to their school.
Once again, the Hy-Vee receipt program has started as well. This will run until December 31, 2007. Hy-Vee will donate a percentage monies based on the amount of monies on the receipts. Every little bit counts. Turn in your Hy-Vee receipts to your student’s teacher!

Note from the Guidance Counselor This year we will have a student council. Third graders will be elected to participate in student council this year. Our interested fourth/fifth and sixth graders are participating in class campaigns, where they are required to write and deliver speeches. Please look for in the next Beals newsletter our students that will represent our school as the 2007-2008 Beals Student Council.
School Attendance
Research shows that children who are in school most of the time do better on state tests. Studies also show that kids who are absent more often score lower on state tests.
Being late for school hurts a child’s learning, too. Kids who are constantly late for school miss valuable classroom time! A student who is 10 minutes late every day will miss 30 hours of instruction during the year!
Here are some tips to help your child get the most out of their education!
• Talk to your child about the importance of attending school regularly.
• Avoid scheduling family trips or doctor appointments during school hours.
• Feed your child nutritious food, and make sure that they get plenty of sleep so that they are healthy and do not stay home sick from school.
• Help your child pick out the clothes they will wear to school before they go to bed every night. This will save you from wasting time hunting for misplaced shoes in the morning.
• Take advantage of the school’s breakfast everyday. It saves you a step in the morning routine.
• Support school rules and consequences for being tardy/ absent! (See page 7 in student handbook)
