From The Principal…
You often hear about the reading,
Math, and Writing that our students do. Well, I want to just take a moment to thank our hard working committed staff here at Beals. Staff Appreciation day will be celebrated on Thursday, March 4, 2008. Appreciation can be shown in many ways. Take a moment to show your child';s teacher how much you appreciate him/her!

Beals is participating in Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo's Read Around the World Contest. The contest runs from December 1st to February 25th.  Students/parents should record all books read during this time frame on the forms or notebook paper.  ALL forms are due by February 26th!!!
We are trying to win a trip for the whole school to go to the zoo in April.
The primary class (pre-K - 3) and the intermediate class (4 -6) with the most books read will win a popcorn party.  Last year we read a total of 5,020 books.  Lets see if we can beat that this year!
To see our progress, go to our Beals website at http://www.ops.org/elementary/beals and click on the Technology link.  Updates weekly.

**This could also count toward reaching your reading goals for the BEALS BOBCAT STAR READING CLUB! SO, KEEP READING BOBCATS!

Illness Guidelines
We have seen an increased number of ill children at school. In order to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases, we’d like to remind you of the following guidelines:
Keep your child home if any one of the following occurs:
•    temperature of 100 degrees or higher within the last 24 hours without fever medication
•    vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours
•    any symptoms of acute illness such as persistent cough, runny nose, and/or body aches
•    students with strep throat need to be treated with antibiotics for 24 hours before returning
Your child should look and behave like him/herself for 24-48 hours before returning to school. Why???
•    To protect your child from exposure to other illness before he/she is able to build resistance.
•    To protect the other students and staff from communicable disease that your child may transmit.
Remember: Hand washing is the most effective means of preventing the spread of communicable diseases! Remind your child to wash their hands frequently and cover their nose and mouths when coughing or sneezing.
Please call the health office with any questions or concerns you have regarding your child’s health needs.
