Have you joined the PTA?  It’s not too late!  PTA is throwing a Pizza Party for the class who has the highest percentage of PTA members.  Most kids love pizza!  Please join the PTA and your kids could end up eating pizza for lunch!  The contest is already underway and will end October 31st!

With nearly 6 million members, PTA is the largest volunteer parent organization in the United States. Since its founding in 1897, PTA has prided itself on being a powerful voice for children, a relevant resource for parents, and a strong advocate for public education. Membership in PTA is open to anyone who is concerned with the education, health, and welfare of children and youth. For more information about PTA, visit www.pta.org.

The first skating party is TONIGHT, Thursday, October 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  at Skate City, 84th & F Streets.  Hope to see you all there!  This is a great way to let the kids enjoy themselves and visit with other parents.  Admission is only $4.00.  Parents and Staff get in free, skate rental, of course is extra.

A Labels Contest began at the start of school. Please send all BoxTops, Our Family and Campbell Labels in a sealed envelope or bag with your child’s teacher’s name clearly listed.  The class that collects the most boxtops and labels by October 25th will win a party.  Contests will be held quarterly.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, October 25th and Thursday, October 26th.

Here are 10 Questions to Ask During the Conference:

*       What subject does my student like most? Least?
*       What can I do to help my student with subjects my child finds difficult? How    can I   help my student study?  Prepare for class? Improve their work? A good   time to ask these questions is when the teacher gives you samples of your       child’s work.
*       Is my student trying as hard as he or she can?
*       Does my student participate in class discussions and activities?
*       Is my student in different classes or groups for different subjects? Which      Ones? How are the groups determined?
*       How well does my student get along with others?
*       Has my student missed classes?
*       Have you noticed changes in the way my student acts?  For example, have         you noticed squinting, tiredness or moodiness that might be a sign of physical  or other problems?
*       How are you measuring my student’s progress?  Through tests?  Portfolios?       Class   participation? Projects?
*       What kinds of tests do you give?  What do the tests show about my student’s     progress?  How does my student handle taking tests?
