Beals Book Room
Beals is developing a Book Room! A Book Room is a room accessed by teachers and outfitted with a variety of leveled texts to best meet the needs of students. The goal is for the teacher to select and introduce text that is “just right” for readers and to continue to select books at that level and interest until the student demonstrates independent ability. Students work in small groups with direct instruction of specific strategies. Therefore, we will have approximately six copies of each book. The Book Room is cost effective! It will provide a central location for teachers to obtain books and share at various reading levels.
Absences and Tardiness Policies
As a reminder – excused absences are granted for illness, medical, dental, religious reasons and school issued suspensions. Students reporting after the first hour and half of the instructional day will be considered as absent for half-day. Students who leave before the last hour and a half of the instructional day will also be counted as absent a half-day. Those students reporting after the 8:55 a.m. start time but during the first hour and a half or leaving within the last hour and half of the instructional day will be considered as tardy.
1. On the fifth day of cumulative absence, school personnel will contact the parent/guardian by phone concerning the student’s attendance pattern. A letter will be sent on the sixth absence.
2. On the eighth day of tardiness, a letter is sent concerning this pattern.
3. On the tenth day of absence or tardiness, school personnel will contact the parent/guardian in writing concerning the student’s attendance pattern. The Student Personnel Assistant will also be contacted.
4. On the fifteenth day of cumulative absence or tardy, school personnel will request that the Student Personnel Assistant issue an attendance letter and conference with the parent/guardian.
5. On the twentieth day of absence, the Student Personnel Assistant may contact the county attorney regarding attendance patterns.
