 Happy Thanksgiving!
A Happy Thanksgiving to you all!  We are so thankful to be able to educate your children and have them in our care!
Just a reminder there is no school for all students beginning November 23rd through November 27th.  Prekindergarten does not have school, as well, on Tuesday, November 22nd.   It is a family activity day!

Food Drive
A big thank you to everyone who helped with our Food Drive!  We were able to assist 20 of our families with meals over the Thanksgiving Holiday.  You are such a caring community and it shows with your many contributions!  Be looking in the newsletter for a list of area businesses that were able to help us this year!  A big thank you to them as well!

You are cordially invited to the Beals Winter Program, Presented by Our
Beals Students
The performance times are
9:30 a.m.  and  1:30 p.m. on
Tuesday, December 6th
In the Beals Gym.
All students Kindergarten to Sixth grade will sing at both times.
This is a wonderful time to watch our students enjoy the winter season!  We look forward to seeing you!!

*Students will be allowed to leave with their parent or guardian after the entire 1:30 p.m. performance.  Students may sign out in their rooms.   If a student is going home with someone other than a parent/guardian, written permission to the school from the parent/guardian is needed prior to the program day.

School Psychologist Week
School Psychologist Week has passed, but we would like to recognize our school psychologist, Dr. Beth Wells, who does a tremendous job with our kiddos!  She performs such duties as consulting with the principals, teachers, counselors and parents to address concerns regarding students.

From the Counselor…
Beals Elementary School again this year has a Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Program.  This program is for students in grades K—5th.   Currently, “Big Sisters” from Mercy High School are available.  Students meet one on one every other week with their mentor.  Students will meet on Mondays and others will meet Tuesdays.  The meetings will occur 3:00—3:40 PM.  During the 40 minute session, time will be spent on homework and relationship building activities.  Students will be supervised by an adult.
Also, again this year our school has a “Kids Can” Tutoring program every Wednesday from 3:40—5:30 PM in our Media Center.  This program is sponsored by the Social Settlement and staffed with adults and college students.   Three students are allowed per tutor.  The program is for Beal’s students who have a higher need for assistance.  IMPORTANT!  Parents are responsible for providing transportation home for their child promptly at 5:30 PM.  Students will be in the main entrance area of our school for pick up.
Contact Mr. Ken Guenther, counselor, for applications and further information about these programs at 554-8570.

HyVee Receipts
Keep saving those receipts!  Any receipts dated up to December 31st  will help Beals School.  Just bring them to the office.  Beals gets a percentage back from the total on the receipts!

Boxtops and “Our Family” Labels
We continually collect those labels all year!  Just put them in a baggie or envelope and send them to school.

Winter Weather and Dismissals
Area radio and television stations will begin carrying the announcement of any school closings due to weather at or before 6:00 AM.  Our superintendent, Dr. Mackiel, will make the decision in advance of this time after evaluating  all information on weather, street and safety conditions.  Only school closing announcements will be made.  If no closing announcement is made, schools will be open.
In the event of unexpected weather emergency, schools may be dismissed early.  In such situations, school will be dismissed two hours earlier than normal.  Kids Club and transportation will run accordingly.  Students will be served lunch.  Please note that in inclement weather, parents may pick up their children from any school at anytime during the day.

Mark your calendars….ELF SHELF IS COMING….December 8th…(formally Reindeer Lanes)
