Another year has come and gone!  Isn’t it amazing how quickly our kiddos grow up?  There are days we want it to slow down and other days when it isn’t fast enough!  It’s always important to keep reminding ourselves that our kiddos are still learning.  Babies have to learn how to pick up a spoon before one end or the other goes into the mouth.  It’s all a learning process.  It is the same with our children in school or at home.  Their brains are constantly absorbing information.  Some of it “sinks in” and some of it doesn’t.  We just have to remember that they are only thinking with a child’s mind whether it is 6 years old, 12 years old or 16 years old.  Keep this thought as they go through the summer and be sure to capitalize on each moment.   The back of the newsletter will provide for you some ideas to keep their minds and hands busy!  Enjoy your time!  Have a safe and rewarding summer!

California Achievement Tests
The California Achievement Test results for grades 2 and 5 will be going home on Friday, May 19th from all Omaha Public Schools.  Accompanying the results is a cover letter explaining the test.  Beals students made every effort to do well on this test.  Thank you, Beals students for your hard work!

You are cordially invited to the Recognition Program

Honoring the Sixth Grade Students of Beals Elementary.
The program will begin at 7:00 p.m.
on Thursday, May 25, 2006
In our multipurpose room.
Plan to attend as we celebrate with our
Sixth Graders!

Market Day
This will be an exciting day!   On Friday, May 19th, our 6th Grade students will be practicing their business math skills as they will have a “Market Day” set up in the gym.  Students will have purchased space and will have items for sale.  The other students in the building will be able to visit the “market” and purchase items.  Most items will be on sale for under a $1.00.  What a neat way to show students how much their math skills are needed!

Lunch Money Reminder

Make sure you have your lunch money paid up to the end of the year!  If you paid too much, it will carryover to the next year.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR BEALS

The last day of school is Friday, May 26th.   Report cards will go home on May 26th, providing all fines are paid.  We look forward to seeing you again in the fall!  Plan to join us on Safe Walk to School/Meet the Teacher Night on Monday, August 21st, 2006.  No need to call the school as this will give you the opportunity to find your classroom as your fall letter will have your child’s room number.

August 2006

During the first couple of weeks of August, you will receive a Fall Opening Letter in the mail.  There will be a letter from the Omaha Public Schools and a letter from Beals.  If you are receiving transportation, that will also arrive in a separate mailing in August.  The letter from Beals will have your child's room assignment for next fall(determined over the summer) and reminders of where your child’s pick up and drop off areas will be stationed.  Make sure your address is correct so you don't miss this important information!  School starts on August 23rd, 2006.  Breakfast will start on the 3rd day of school.

When making room assignments, many factors are taken into consideration.  We look at the number of males, females, ethnic background, citizenship/behavior, student to teacher ratio, teaching styles, learning styles, academic ability and performance.  We want your child in the best possible environment for learning—sometimes that means they may not be with certain friends.  We take this task very seriously and appreciate your understanding when you receive your child’s placement notification.
