Can you believe we are talking about this already?  Our Sixth Graders are getting ready to embark on a new journey in their lives—Middle School!!!!  Before we send them off, we need to have a celebration!  On the evening of Thursday, May 26th, we will have a Sixth Grade Recognition Night!  This will be followed by a Fun Day for them on the last day of school, May 27th.  We and the PTA are in need of some assistance.  We need parents who will help decorate, get cake/punch for the Recognition Night.  We also need parents who will accompany the Sixth Graders on May 27th.  Parents, in the past, have done the majority of the planning for this day, as well.   If you are interested in helping, please contact the school at 554-8570.  We appreciate your help!

DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION
Differentiation is…[Image:3162005_104642_0.bmp]
…a way of thinking about teaching and learning.
…a teacher reacting responsively to each learner’s needs.
…helping to address the needs of academically diverse learners in increasingly diverse classrooms.
…”defined as a way of teaching in which teachers proactively modify curriculum, teaching methods, resources, learning activities, and student products to address the needs of individual students and/or small groups of students to maximize the learning opportunity for each student in the classroom.”  -- Carol Tomlinson

You may be hearing about this more and more at Beals!  Teachers are working hard at strategizing their instruction to meet the needs of each student.  Some ideas may be effective at home, too!

SEVERE WEATHER DRILLS
In the near future we will be practicing our Severe Weather Drill and Emergency Lock Down of the building.  For the Severe Weather Drill, a special alarm will sound telling the staff and students that it is time to go to the storm shelter.  Routes are planned for students to follow.  For the Emergency Lockdown, a different special alarm will sound alerting the staff to lock doors and not venture into the halls.  All outside doors will be locked and students will not be allowed to leave.  We are always hopeful that we will never have to put these into practice, yet we want to be prepared!
