Beals Elementary has a rich history of educating students for the past 100 years. The original building was constructed in 1900, but a fire destroyed it in 1903. The new building was constructed in 1904 and still stands. A new addition was added in 1912. The renovation of Beals was completed in 2003, due to a school bond issue. Beals was named after Samuel DeWitt Beals, who was Superintendent of Schools from 1874 to 1880. The school ground covers 4.5 acres and is bound by Center Street, 48th Street, 49th Street and a passageway south of Hickory Street.
