South High Magnet School is an Information Technology and Visual/Performing Arts Magnet for ninth through twelfth graders. This newly renovated facility is one of the largest high school buildings in the state. In January 2000, South was named one of the top 12 Academy of Information Technology sites in the nation due to its innovative programs. Students utilize laptop computers and palm pilots as part of their daily classroom activity. The Visual/Performing Arts program offers students the opportunity to create and perform in theater, music and art. Community partnerships include Opera Omaha and the Omaha Community Playhouse. South High Magnet is the creator of the Omaha History Room, which compiles and houses numerous documents and memorabilia regarding Omaha. Many other unique courses and opportunities are available to meet the academic needs of all South High Magnet students. These unique courses include dual language offerings for many academic areas and Success Strategies for ninth-graders.
