HEAD START LOCATION
King Elementary is located at 3706 Maple Street and is named after Dr. Martin Luther King. This was the first Omaha Public School named after a famous African-American. The school opened in 1973 as a middle school, later became a ninth grade center and then a primary grade center. In 1999 it became a neighborhood academy school housing students from pre-kindergarten through grade six. The current membership is approximately 480 students. King Elementary has three reading specialists on the staff as well as three resource teachers and two library media specialists. The library media center is very well equipped. King Elementary is active in the Adopt-a-School Program with Security National Bank, Albertsons and the Outback as partners. As an Elementary school, King boasts small class sizes of approximately 15 in the primary grades and approximately 20 in the intermediate grades.
