In the Omaha Public Schools student placement is based upon the student's home address. To determine the home attendance area (neighborhood) school use the Home Attendance Area School Locator link at the bottom of this page. Type in the street address of the student's residence (apartment numbers are not necessary). Go to the Schools tab for a list of the neighborhood schools for the address.
If selecting the home attendance area school go directly to the school to register your child. To consider option schools see the School Transfers page for more information. A link to the School Transfers page is at left.
For first registration into the Omaha Public Schools, the following information must be provided:
1. Birth Certificate: Present the original birth certificate at the registration site. We must have a copy from the original document on file as a part of the Federal 'Missing Child Act' to insure that the child is under the legal guardianship of the adult who has physical custody.
2. Immunization Record: School districts in Nebraska are required to assure that students have been immunized for major communicable diseases. A copy of these records must be on file.
3. Address Verification: OPS accepts various forms of address verification for the convenience of our families. Acceptable documents must show the name and correct address of the parent/guardian. Sources include OPPD, MUD, Qwest or Cox Cable statements, a purchase or rental agreement for the residence, a Medicare/medicaid card or, if the student is in foster care, a Superintendent's Letter.
4. Physical and Eye Examinations: See school nurse at registration for more information.
5. Special Education Documents: If the student is newly entering the Omaha Public Schools and has been receiving special education services in the previous school, present the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) report and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) at registration to allow for appropriate placement in the program/services required to meet the child's educational needs. If these documents are not readily available, inform the school of the previous services and provide the name and address of the previous school and district.
KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT

Contact your home attendance area school or the Student Placement Office (557-2710) for more details.
