School Safety
  • School Security is one of the main functions of security in the Omaha Public Schools. OPS continually works to ensure a safe learning/work environment for students, staff and parents. A successful security effort reflects a balanced collaboration between educators and security personnel. Security personnel are members of the educational support staff and are trained to work directly with students to identify, prevent and solve school safety issues.
  • Life Skills- Life Skills curriculum exists in all elementary schools and reinforces positive school behavior. Life skills lessons include role playing, practice, generalization and transfer of appropriate behavior.
  • Positive Action Centers- Positive Action Centers act as an intervention and resource for providing students opportunities to practice life skills.
  • Building Plans- Schools implement Management Plans and Crisis Plans to strengthen the practices related to a safe learning environment. The prevention plans contribute to a calm school climate and assure the safety of students and staff.
