With the advent of spring and summer come the endless sounds of construction as contractors work to build homes in the metro area. They are the sounds often associated with hard physical labor, a fairly stable housing economy and 30-year mortgages.
Mr. David Pedersen, a partner in the Baird Holm law firm, was conferred a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan in 1973 and served as a law clerk to the chief justice of the U.S. District Court for the state of Nebraska from 1973-1975. After joining Baird Holm, he devoted his illustrious career to providing legal counsel and guidance to the Omaha Public Schools’ Board of Education and school district staff.
"This group is like a nest. We can talk about anything, and it doesn’t leave the room," said Brittany Embree, a former Rose Hill Elementary student.The group Embree is describing is known as "B Yourself." It’s an after-school club open to any sixth-grade girl at Rose Hill and it aims to help prepare students for life in middle school.
When it comes time to apply for their first jobs, Blackburn High students Breanna Schweigart and LaSandra Clayton say they’ll feel confident with their résumés and interviewing skills. They attribute that confidence to the lessons they’re learning in a pilot program at Blackburn known as Champions for Change—a SkillsUSA initiative sponsored by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.Blackburn is one of only two schools in the nation selected to implement the program last school year, which promotes technical skill training, leadership development and employer networking.
