How do I get an application?
All classified personnel applications need to be completed in the Applications Center. Hours are from 8:30 to 3:00 daily for this task. The classified applications are not mailed.
How long will my application be kept on file?
Applications are kept current for one year. Before the year is completed, please write Human Resources to update your file.
What if I am hired?
A Human Resource Administrator will call you to offer a position. At that time, a start date will be confirmed, time to report for work is given, and paperwork and the acceptance letter is sent. Before you report to work: ALL forms need to be returned to Human Resources. Also, a photo ID will be taken at this time and a parking tag will be issued if you will be working at the Teacher Administrative Center. Your medical form that has been completed by a physician needs to be returned also before you start work.
Do I work only when students are in school?
There are ten month (202 day) and twelve month (261 day) positions available in the District. The ten month positions are generally off when the students are not in school (during winter and spring recess) . However, there is a calendar each year made for holidays and days off for ten month workers. The full time twelve month positions have ten vacation days per year (prorated with the actual start date) and six paid holidays per year. After five credible years as a 261 day full time employee, the vacation time is increased to fifteen days.
What is probation?
Anyone coming into the Omaha Public Schools, either as part time or full time, needs to serve probation. This is a six-month period where the salary is at an entry level rate. After an employee works in the same position for six months, an evaluation is given by the supervisor/administrator, and the employee then moves off of probation to a new salary schedule.
