Employee Assistance Program

At the Employee Assistance Program we understand that employees are subject to a wide range of personal problems, which may affect job performance. At the EAP we work with employees in a confidential manner to improve an employee’s quality of life. When personal problems become too big to handle, professional assistance might be helpful. Without proper attention, personal problems could lead to a decrease in the quality of life and poor job performance. Our mission is to help individuals work through personal issues and succeed as employees.

Counselors at the Employee Assistance Program have received training to work with individuals in a therapeutic setting. All EAP counselors are state licensed, Master’s level therapists. All EAP counselors are committed to upholding the National Association of Social Work Code of Ethics (http://www.socialworkers.org/pubs/code/default.asp).

About Us

The Employee Assistance Program was created in 1983 as a joint effort between OPS and the City of Omaha. The EAP was created to provide confidential services to OPS and City employees in a cost efficient manner.

Subsequent public agencies have joined the EAP through contractual agreements. To date, we currently provide services to employees for Omaha Public Schools, City of Omaha, Douglas County, Papio Water Reservation and Metro Area Transit. We provide short-term counseling services to all employees, spouses and dependent children.

Services Provided

1)  Confidential Counseling – at an initial session with an EAP counselor an assessment and background information will be conducted. After your initial assessment, the counselor might make recommendations for treatment options including, but not limited to additional EAP counseling, chemical dependency treatment, psychiatric evaluations, or ongoing counseling with a community specialist.

2)      Supervisor Training – EAP counselors meet with new supervisors to review EAP services and train supervisors about making mandatory referrals to our agency.

3)      Employee Wellness – The EAP is concerned about wellness issues with all employees. We know that true wellness comes from being healthy in mind, body and spirit. The EAP offers the following wellness services: annual flu vaccinations, stress management seminars, grief intervention, caring for aging parent seminars, corporate cup sponsorship and response to critical incidents.

4) Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) – Counselors at the Employee Assistance Program have been trained in critical incident debriefing methods.  All EAP counselors have completed the state CISM training.  EAP counselors are qualified to respond to employees who have experienced a work-related trauma or dealt with a critical incident in their work facility.
