Ponca Elementary students and staff celebrated the district's 150th anniversary by creating a tile mosaic that is now proudly displayed in the school's main lobby. Under the direction of art teacher Emily Adams, each classroom, teacher and staff member painted an image on an unglazed tile. Students selected an idea based around a central theme taken from their grade level curriculum and teachers and staff members created tiles depicting raccoon paw prints. The mosaic's center raccoon was created by Adams. Themes include nature, animals, classroom community, the Omaha community, Native American history, the United States and famous sites around the world.
