Dr. Lee Kallstrom, engineering magnet teacher at North High Magnet School, recently returned from a five-week fellowship in Madagascar sponsored by Fund For Teachers. While there, he evaluated an ongoing project of rocket stoves being conducted with Dr. Ed Louis through the Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership at the Henry Doorly Zoo and at MIT’s D-Lab. He was able to study three types of endangered lemurs and the extremely endangered radiated tortoise. With the help of Susie McGuire from Conservation Fusion, a non-profit educational NGO, Kallstrom participated in student conservation programs, nature field trips, and teacher workshops which help to educate young people on the fourth largest island on earth.
