Western Hills Magnet Center celebrated Earth Day & Global Youth Service Day with a school clean-up effort. Students and staff picked up litter, weeds and leaves in their outdoor classroom and around the playground to help beautify the school grounds. Teachers Erin Clark and Jan Wilson, along with Western Hills students, made a special mural that is now hanging in the outdoor classroom garden.
During the Earth Day closing ceremony, UNO professor Dr. David Corbin and a group of Western Hills students taught staff and students the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Dance." Dr. Corbin made a costume out of recycled plastic sacks to help students visualize the sheer number of bags often thrown away. Students were even invited to the Joslyn Art Museum the following week to teach the dance at Joslyn's service-learning event.
