Congratulations to South High Magnet social studies teacher, coach and service learning coordinator Matthew Curtis who has been selected as one of the 2011 Ten Outstanding Young Omahans by the Omaha Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees). Matt has served as a social studies teacher for 11 years. For the past three years, he has served as the co-sponsor of South's Character in Action (CIA) service-learning organization. Additionally, he is in his first year as the head girls basketball coach.
As sponsor of CIA, Matt has the privilege of working with the finest students in Omaha on programs that have improved the lives of others. The CIA group has been responsible for creating and implementing programs that range from mentoring elementary students to community improvement projects benefiting the Pine Ridge Reservation, the Open Door Mission, the Siena Francis House, the Get Out the Vote campaign and the Autism Action Partnership.
