Pinewood Elementary students studied a different culture each week of summer school. The school’s library media specialist organized a wide range of activities for students and the surrounding community, and invited several guest speakers to the school to enhance the lessons.
Guests included: a Mexican folkloric dance group; Hispanic storyteller and artist Linda Garcia; African storyteller Awele; African performance artist Charles Ahovissi; Chinese dancers and martial artists from the Omaha Chinese Culture Association; and origami artist Chizuko Takechi of the Nebraska Arts Council.
