The OPS Gifted & Talented Department once again hosted SmART Minds--a daylong art exploration event for third-grade artists from across the district. More than 120 gifted and talented students took part in a day of art appreciation, exploration and creation at the Joslyn Art Museum, discovering the connections between art and math, specifically geometry. Students rotated between three activity stations: a docent-led tour through various galleries, and two hands-on art classes where they designed exciting tessellation patterns using printmaking techniques and created their own 3-D masks. Participants also had the chance to submit a pencil drawing for a SmART Minds art competition. The drawings reflect the theme of “Patterns All Around Us.”
