Graduation Requirements & Promotion

Graduation Requirements for High School

Students and parents are encouraged to study the Omaha Public Schools graduation requirements listed below and plan a program of study to make certain all graduation requirements are met.  Students need to set high goals and take full advantage of the academic opportunities available to them during high school.

These are minimum graduation requirements, and students are encouraged to take more than the minimum.  It is important for students to set up personal learning plans that encompass their academic, educational, and career goals.  Read the individual high school course guides to become more familiar with coursework needed to prepare for post-secondary educational and career opportunities.  Individual OPS high school course opportunities may be viewed at individual school websites.

Subject Area Credit Requirements for Graduation
English 8 Credits
Social Studies 7 Credits
Mathematics 6 Credits
Science 6 Credits
Physical Education 4 Credits
Human Growth & Development* 1 Credit
Electives 17 Credits
Total            49 Credits

*Students may opt out of Human Growth & Development with parental permission.  A signed waiver is required.
