Nebraska's largest ecologically focused event, Earth Day, is taking place in Omaha's Elmwood Park on April 21 from 11:00am - 5:00pm. Every year nearly 10,000 people converge on Omaha's Earth Day event to learn more about people, organizations and businesses that are making a positive impact on the environment. The 2012 version of Earth Day is shaping up to be extra special. Planners are designating a special place for K–12 schools to show off their green practices and projects and calling it Education Corner.
Is your school doing a great job of being green? If so, come to Earth Day and tell thousands about it? Every participant will have the opportunity to talk to the thousands of people that attend AND will have a few minutes on stage to give the highlights of your school's green activities.
You can register your school for a booth for the discounted rate of $25 at the Earth Day website. Registration ends Friday, April 6.

- An update on district-wide ENERGY STAR ratings
- Insight into reduced paper use by Spring Lake
- Details on the February Challenge to eliminate incandescent bulbs
As always, contact the GSI Coordination Team, GSI@verdisgroup.com, if you have any questions.

| IMS Guidelines for Conserving Energy related to Computers, Monitors and other Electronics - Wednesday, March 30, 2011The OPS IMS Team has distributed a District-wide communication that could result in over $150,000 in average annual savings. The team created a brief but thorough memorandum that outlines the guidelines:
- Turn off the monitor if the PC will not be used for more than 20 minutes.
- Turn off the PC if it won’t be used for more than two hours.
- If a projector will not be used for more than 15 minutes, it is best to power it off and let the lamp cool for a few minutes with the fan running before turning it completely off.
Because there are so many computers in the District (27,000+) these simple changes will have a huge impact. Naturally, a few exceptions to the guidelines exist, but for the most part, they apply to all machines.
