Yates Alternative School is located at 3260 Davenport Street. The diverse student population includes students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Yates School provides a specialized program for students with behavioral and learning disorders who are referred to Yates from classrooms throughout the school district. The program's primary goal is to help students learn skills that will allow them to return to neighborhood schools or to a transition setting. Through individualized educational plans, the school improvement plan tracks three goals for each student in the areas of math, communication, and social skills. Students are provided with individualized instruction, a low student-teacher ratio, a daily point card and level system, and daily instruction in social skills. Secondary students participate in a transition program that includes career awareness and work experience opportunities. Yates has monthly family activities and is strongly supported by an Adopt-A-School Partner.
