Student: Zoe Gray My name is Elizabeth Lankford. My daughter, Zoe Gray, is a first grader at Oak Valley Elem. School. A few months ago, I sent back paperwork for the gifted program that Zoe had received for testing. Since then, I have not heard anything about it. I have had issues with her teacher, so I wanted to check to make sure Mrs. Copeland sent Zoe's paperwork back to you. Please contact me and let me know either way, and any other status/info. I should be aware of. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Elizabeth Lankford edml4072@yahoo.com (402)708-2446 Submitted By: Elizabeth Lankford

assessment We will be relocating to Omaha this summer. I would like to have my son evaluated. Is this something we can do before school begins in the fall? He will be a sixth grader. Thanks 308-225-1168 danadesi21@yahoo.com Submitted By: Dana DeSimone

Alexandrya Bailey Mrs. Johnson, I wanted to touch base with you regarding Alex's "create a game" project. I had contacted the school with questions regarding the assignment, and Alex said you emailed me back. Unfortunately I haven't received any email, so I wanted to make sure the school had the correct email on file. This email is the best to use for any school-related conversation, as this is the family email that gets checked on a regular basis. Also, I was wondering if, in the future, when a large project with additional supplies is required you could send the parents an email or a flyer. Alex does a pretty good job managing her own schedule but it's hard for my husband and I to keep track of when her GT days are at times and so it would be helpful to know exact dates if extra supplies are needed. I don't want Alex to suffer again in the future not being able to participate due to the lack of understanding on my or my husband's part regarding a project requirements. Thanks in advan

kindergarten programs My name is Anna Peters. My daughter Jessica will be entering kindergarten at Laura Dodge in the fall. We tried to enroll her in the dual language program, but there wasn't enough room. I'm concerned about placing her in a regular kindergarten classroom, since I'm not sure it will be challenging enough. She's already reading, writing, and doing math. She'll need the socialization part of kindergarten, since she's been in a Montessori preschool this year. The routines of a regular school will be very different. But, I don't want her to lose her love of learning because there's nothing new. And, I don't want her to get into trouble because she is bored. Do you have any recommendations? Would it be possible for us to meet at some point to discuss options? Thank you and have a great weekend. Submitted By: Anna Peters

kindergarten options My name is Anna Peters. My daughter will be entering kindergarten in the fall. She has been in Montessori this year. We were hoping to enroll her in the Dual Language program, but there weren't enough spaces and she didn't get in. She is assigned to Laura Dodge Elementary. My concern is that she is already reading, writing, and doing math. I don't want her to be bored in kindergarten and lose her internal motivation to learn and discover. I know she needs kindergarten to learn how to "do school," especially since that will be very different from what she is used to at Montessori. So, I don't want to skip her up a grade. I wish there was a K/1 multi-age class she could enroll in, but I don't think anyone is doing that combination. What do you recommend that we do to help her transition to school successfully and find adequate challenges? Submitted By: Anna Peters

Program Transfer Good Afternoon, Im working on getting a headstart on the new school year at a new school & I'd like to ask a question. I have a student in the Gifted & Talented program at a different school right now. My child will transfer to one of your areas and I wondering if she will also be in your program or do you have to requalify yearly? Best Regards, Shawnita Mack Submitted By: Shawnita Mack

bored in kindergarten Hello, My son, Anthony, is a student in Mrs. Dornsife's kindergarten. After meeting with his teachers, we have come to the conclusion that he is advanced in various areas. He is reading at an advanced level, is socially advanced, and has gotten advanced marks in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. After a few talks with his teacher about his tendency to answer all the questions asked of the class and his impatience at times, I feel that he may be bored with the curriculum because he has already mastered much of what is being taught. I have applied at Westside and Millard schools and he has been accepted. I had no idea there was this sort of Gifted and Talented initiative at Sunny Slope, however. I was wondering if you could give me more information and possibly give me some guidance. Thank You. Submitted By: Cara Eccleston
