The SBHCs (School-Based Health Centers) are taking appointments now for immunizations and physicals for the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year. Entrance to seventh grade physicals and entrance to school physicals can be completed on or after March 15.  Athletic physicals can be completed after May 1 for grades 8 through 12.

Services provided at the School-Based Health Centers include:

•    Physical exams for entrance to school (pre-k and kindergarten) and entrance to seventh grade
•    Pre-participation physicals for athletic participation for after school sports for grades 8 through 12
•    Required and recommended immunizations
•    Acute care for ear infections, strep throat and respiratory infections
•    Support of chronic care, including writing asthma/allergy action plans, which must be renewed annually for school

The SBHCs provide affordable, quality care. The SBHCs accept Medicaid (without interruption of your selected provider), private insurance, and private pay for families who are without insurance.

Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is now the official adopt-a-school partner of King Science and Technology Magnet Center. This gives students in each grade many opportunities to be involved directly with science projects the zoo does, behind-the-scene tours of the zoo and field experiences. King Science also will give back to the zoo by being a part of some of its annual events and teachers will help write curriculum for some of the zoo's exhibits. Programs and class offerings are being developed for next year for all grades. Already planned for this year are fifth- and sixth-grade service learning trips to the zoo. Seventh- and eighth-graders will tour the zoo in April. King Science also has official community partnerships with Whispering Roots and Conservation Fusion. Sixth- and seventh-graders have been partnering with Whispering Roots on an aquaponics project.
