Kavanaugh is the News Director of radio stations KFAB-KGOR. He has received journalism awards from Creighton University and the University of Nebraska-Omaha. In 1981, Kavanaugh was named "Best Radio News Personality" and "Best Radio News Manager" by the Omaha Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television.
