Hauptman is the founding partner of Hauptman, O'Brien, Wolf & Lathrop. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and was admitted to the bar in 1974. Hauptman is the President of Omaha Barristers Club and the publisher of educational materials for trial lawyers. His law firm has been cited by the Omaha Safety Council for its "Safe Ride Home" project during the holiday season. Hauptman is a volunteer attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union and a board of the Nebraska Leukemia Society. He also finds time to coach the Omaha Metro High School Mock Trial Program and children's baseball and soccer teams.
