In 1989, Mr. Reid thought he had retired as a 38 year employee of the YMCA. Little did he know, he would spend the next decade working as a consultant for the national YMCA and other local social service agencies. He culminated his pre-retirement career as the President of the Omaha/Council Bluffs YMCA during which he oversaw six branches and two camp operations. Currently, Mr. Reid is a Trustee of the Executive Service Corps of Nebraska, an elder of the Presbyterian Church of the Cross and a member of the Board of Directors of the South High Alumni Association. Mr. Reid was named 1998 Volunteer of the Year for the Social Settlement and was a nominee for the 1999 United Way of the Midlands Volunteer of the Year. He is a Charter Member of the Executive Service Corps of Nebraska and his skills have benefited such groups as the Chicano Awareness Center, Voices for Children, Keep Omaha Beautiful, and the Ponca Indian tribe.
