Christiansen is the past President of the Omaha Education Association. Prior to his election, Christiansen was a teacher at Technical and North High Schools. He established nationally recognized programs in the biological sciences and physics. Christiansen is a member of the Omaha Schools Foundation Board of Directors, NEA Committee on International Relations, Optimist Youth Foundation Board and he is a judge for the National Student Teaching Competition. "Graduating from South meant that I had the privilege of having teachers who cared enough to help me exceed myself--I have earned several diplomas, but the one from South High represents the kind of care and learning that has shaped my entire life."
