This course introduces students to careers in the area of Small Engine Repair and Welding. Students learn how small engines work and progress to advanced aspects of engine repair such as fuel systems, exhaust systems, ignition starters, and transmission systems. The emphasis is on maintenance, operation, adjustment, and troubleshooting small engines used on outdoor power and sport equipment. Welding provides students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and develop skills in the welding industry and to become familiar with career opportunities. Students study arc welding, oxyacetylene welding, shielded metal-arc welding, gas shielded-arc welding, and special welding processes. Focus is placed on safety and industrial applications.

Motor Sport Repair prepares students to enter the motor sport maintenance field with all the necessary skills to perform entry-level work, and prepares them with a thorough understanding of theory in order to qualify to participate in advanced training. Students learn types of engine design, carburetion and electrical systems. Students learn to adjust and repair the frame, wheels, shocks, transmission, valves and routine maintenance on ATV's and motorcycles.
Prerequisite: Motor Sport Repair 1-2 or Auto Tech 1-2
Duration: Full year
