 Concordia Early Childhood program - Early Childhood degree (MA)

 
Project Objectives:

To provide a clear understanding of early childhood programs, culture, and communications with family, social emotional development, inclusive teaching strategies, parent engagement, preventing and changing inappropriate behaviors.

Performance Indicators:
  1. Number of cohort members completing the 36 hour Concordia Early Childhood program.
  2. Performance appraisal indicates improvement in classroom and teacher effectiveness.
  3. Participant surveys measuring program effectiveness.

 

   
Accomplishments:

 

In accordance to Rule 11 - Regulations for Early Childhood Education Programs, "Any teacher in an early childhood education program shall hold a valid Nebraska Teaching certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Preschool Disabilities, or Early Childhood Education unified." In order to stay within compliance with this rule, our district entered into a partnership with Concordia University to offer to teachers an opportunity to earn their Masters Endorsement in Early Childhood Education. Fifty Head Start, PreK, Kindergarten and First Grade teachers were selected to take part in this 2 year program. Teachers began their semester classes in the fall of 2010 and are scheduled to complete in December of 2012. Teachers taking part in this experience receive their tuition and books paid with the understanding that they will remain with the district for at least two years following completion of this degree.
